Athlete compensation?

I’ve heard this debate for years. Do athletes deserve to be paid? I honestly think they should, but I’m not blind to the fact that only certain athletes bring in revenue to the school. I believe that if nothing else the athletes that play in the NCAA championship and tournament should receive some type of pention for their play. I say that because everybody, but the athlete gets paid. Roy Williams got a 900k dollar bonus for winning the national championship. What did the athletes receive? T-shirts, hats and memories. The NCAA makes loads of money off of these athletes and they constantly say that an athlete is a student first and athlete second. I believe that athletes are only students first when they’re in the offseason and during the summer. The ncaa treats athletes like sponges, they try to squeeze everything out of them before they leave. It’s a very unfair situation, they sell athletes jerseys and the athlete sees none of that money. There needs to be a some type of solution because I believe that the athlete could and will boycott the NCAA. Without any athletes there will be no revenue.

More Life 🌺

Drake, a rapper from Toronto, Canada, recently dropped his sixth studio album, More Life. A lot of people that I hang around didn’t really like because they wanted him to come hard with a bunch of bars. If you’re a true Drake fan though, you know that he’s never just rapped on every song. He raps and sings, he’s always been that way so why would he change after his sixth album? I actually had zero problems with the album. I loved how it hand a few bangers, but also had songs you just sit and chill to.

Drake has been the talk of the rap game for years, whether it be negative or positive he is the talk nonetheless. In this album Drake shows his versatility and just why he’s the best in the game right now. The intro Free Smoke allows Drake to rap and drop some serious bars. The next track No Long Talk he comes even harder than he did on the intro. Then the next few songs he’s singing and doing his famous chill story telling raps in Jorja Interlude. In this album Drake shows how to keep everybody on their toes, you never know what you’re going to get with Drake. All that you know is that you’re going to get some good music. Drake obviously like other rappers that like to try new things showed that he hadn’t lost his old touch or sound with Teenage Fever and Since Way Back. I give this album a solid 8.75/10. I highly recommend that you listen to this album, but to get the full effect don’t try to listen to it on the go, listen to it when you have down time and aren’t busy.

Time to Hush?

Over the course of this year Lonzo Ball has played basketball at a very high level. He’s developed a lot of talk, he’s even got talks of him becoming the number 1 pick in the draft, rightfully so. His father has talked very highly of him, which every father should do about their kid. At first it was, wow he has a lot of confidence in his son. Over the past few months though, his mouth is starting to become a question. Is it time for Lavar Ball to keep his mouth shut?

He’s come out and said lots of suspect things, such as his son is better than the reigning 2-time MVP Stephen Curry. Which I myself am not too big on Steph Curry so I let that go. Later on he started talking about how Lebron James’ kids won’t be as good as him. I started to pay more attention to him when he said that because I’m a huge Lebron fan. I am also a family man and  you never talk about anybodies family, I believe when it comes to family if you don’t have anything nice or positive to say keep it to yourself. Finally he then said he could beat arguably the greatest basketball player ever Michael Jordan in a game of 1 on 1. That’s when I started thinking to myself is it really about his sons or is it about him? I’m all for supporting your kid and I respect that he believes in all of us kids, but it’s starting to seem like he’s trying to live his old dream through his kids. That’s what I don’t like, I don’t think it’s cool to try to live through your kids. At the end of the day its about Lonzo, Gelo, and Melo not Lavar. Now this is no knock on his parenting because he’s obviously doing a wonderful job, but don’t make it about you.

I said all that to say this Lavar should start to watch what he says because people will start to target your sons because of what you say or do. Lonzo could always not live up to expectation and then Lavar would really  have his foot in his mouth. A lot that you say really could effect you in a positive or negative way.

High Jump

I used to tell my mom that I would go somewhere with track. I started out running long events like 800, 1600, the mile, etc. I always wanted to be a 100 runner, but I never had the footspeed for that. I had great stamina though, and I was great at pacing myself for my age. I found basketball and kind of gave up running because the NBA dream was in my head. It was in my head up until I was a senior in high school averaging a measly 6.5 points and zero division one offers coming out of high school. Flashback to my sophomore year and when I got back into track and field.

I got back into track and field when my jumps coach saw me dunk in a basketball game. She came up to me that week during PE and said you should definitely try high jump. We did a practice meet and my first time jumping I cleared 6 foot, I honestly didn’t know how good that was. I ended up clearing 6’3 that year and winning the sectional championship. My Junior year I cleared 6’4 and went onto regionals, but didn’t make it to state. Senior year my coach and I had one goal that was to go to state and get a scholarship. Beginning of the season I jumped 6’6, a few days later I jumped 6’9. As the season progressed I jumped 6’10 and once tournament time rolled around I cleared 7 foot. I received a call from Coach Walker and he said I could be the best high jumper in louisville history and offered me later that week.

I have this love/hate relationship with high jump. In my mind I am the best high jumper in the nation and sometimes it shows, sometimes it doesn’t. High jump is very frustrating because it’s so hard to do the same jump every time. As I get older and closer to my goals I’m starting to figure it out, that’s what makes it all worth it. I believe that I can get myself a national championship before I leave the university of louisville.

GET OUT

I recently watched Get Out a movie directed by Jordan Peele. Does that name sound familiar? If so, it’s probably because you watched a pretty funny show called Key and Peele. Get Out was to my knowledge Peele’s first big movie released that directed. He had a budget of 4.5 million, during the opening weekend he grossed a whopping 30.5 million. I’m not going to ruin the story line for people reading that haven’t seen the movie yet. The success of Get Out has sparked major controversial conversations across the country. Is the movie racist? Did the movie have a deeper meaning or was it just a good scary movie?

I personally think that the movie was a solid 10/10. I’ve talked to a few friends and family about the movie and they agreed too. My thoughts on the movie were that it definitely had a deeper meaning than just your everyday scary movie. I think it showed a little bit of history in it without even trying to. I know I said I wouldn’t spoil it, but whatever. For example,  there was one scene where they were auctioning Chris (Black actor) off in the movie while him and Rose were away on a walk. That just kind of symbolized how slaves were auctioned off during slavery times. There were a few other scenes that kind of showed signs of how slavery was, but I’ll spare the audience that hasn’t seen the movie.

All in all the movie touches on some very touchy subjects through subtle messages. I’ve read a few blogs and people have talked about how they’ve seen small stuff in the movie with big messages so I plan on using a gift card to watch it one more time. This blog will be continued once I gather even more information that I missed from the first time I watched. I 15/10 recommend everybody go watch it.

Win or Else

As you all know Kevin Durant recently signed a 2 year deal with the already loaded Golden State Warriors. Here’s a little background on the Golden State Warriors. Last season they won a record breaking 73 games during the regular, capping off the greatest NBA regular season ever. They went down 3-1 against the OKC which threatened their run at a great post season. Heroics from Curry and Thompson surged them past the Thunder. The Golden State Warriors went to the NBA FINALS and went of 3-1 against Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. They ended up blowing the lead and cavs won their first championship in 55+ years.

The summer came and the warriors signed Kevin Durant. This was huge news around the world because the warriors were already stacked, but adding arguably the second basketball player in the world to your team is HUGE. Kevin Durant can literally average 28 points a game in his sleep. He can score 30 on any given night and watching the warriors this season he’s had one 40 point game shooting less than 20 shots, that in itself is absolutely ridiculous to me.

Adding Kevin Durant adds loads of pressure to him and the warriors. Why? Because if we’re all being honest they should’ve won last year. I’m very glad that they didn’t win, but lets face it they choked out those last 3 games. Adding Kevin Durant makes a loss in the finals this year all the summer time roster changes not worth it at all. Kevin Durant definitely took the easy way out and that’s going to taint his legacy no matter what, but losing will be a MAJOR HIT to his legacy. So, Kevin Duranr and the GS Warriors have no other option, but to win.

Snubbed

Everybody who knows me knows that I am a huge lover of music and I am a tough critic. When I first heard about Travis Scott I was a little hard on him because early on his music career he didn’t really know his sound. He was all over the place and I couldn’t really get with him like I wanted to. I gave him another chance when dropped his album Rodeo, which was solid. I thought that album was kind of all over the place, but it had good music on it.

This year Travis Scott recently dropped an album called Birds in the Trap Sing Mcknight. In my honest opinion I thought it should’ve won a grammy or at least been nominated for one. I actually waited for this album, I had never done this for any album, but for some reason I waited for this one to drop. Wow, when it dropped it was everything I expected and then some. I love everything about this album. I felt like he’d finally found his sound and he made a masterpiece. In his early music his autotune was kind of all over the place. This album had a lot of songs that were great, a few of my favorites are Through the Late Night, First Take, Lose, theres more, but those are just a few. I think he mixes a great sound with like futuristic beats.

I thought it was absolutely crazy that he wasn’t at least nominated for a grammy. Everybody who listened to this album could tell that he put a lot of time and effort into it and showed. This album is going to be hard to top because in my opinion it was great. If and only if he can top this album, I believe he will get a grammy. I’ve actually grown to love Travis Scott, not in like a weird way, but I appreciate everything he puts out. I also like Travis Scott because he bought his family a brand new house and a lot of celebrities get to a certain point and forget about the people that were truly there from the start. I thought that was a beautiful gesture and I believe he did it out of love. A lot of people don’t really like Travis Scott, but in time I think he’ll grow into a superstar in the end and win plenty of grammies. d4f4a8446685b32095799e1affbae6db-640x640x1

Fav. Actor

I am a huge movie fan, everybody that knows me knows that. Every night I go to sleep to a movie on this website or Netflix. Out of every actor that i’ve seen in my 21 years of living, this actor has always put on GREAT performances. This actor happens to be Will Smith. I grew up watching Will Smith with my step dad on Nick at Nite while he played himself on Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I fell in love with the way this man acted, the way he poured his heart and soul into literally every role he’s played. One scene in particular was when he had finally gotten to see his dad and his dad left early and he started venting to uncle phil asking why doesn’t he want me? That really stuck with me because he put all of his emotions into that scene, he even cried. I can definitely empathize with that because my real dad was never really in my life. He is now, but growing up he was never there. one of my favorite movies by Will Smith is the pursuit of happiness. I just feel like I learn so much when I watch any type of movie of his and that’s why he’s my favorite actor

Black History

Wow… 2017 is really here and it is really black history month. It’s only right that a tell about one of my favorite athletes and business men of all time. That man happens to be LeBron James. This man had the weight of the world on his shoulders and he exceeded literally every expectation that the media placed on him. Lebron came out of high school deemed the chosen one with good reason, we had never seen anybody like him. To be 6’8″ 260 lbs and move as fast as a guard, but still be able to control his strength was unseen and unheard of. Early in his career he showed why he was “The King” or “The Chosen One” his second year in the league as a 19 year old he averaged 29 points a game. I don’t think that has ever been done in NBA history. A few years passed and he left cleveland because they weren’t getting him help and he knew his legacy would be on the line if he didn’t win any championships. So came the infamous  “decision” which everybody hated it, but in the end raised LOADS of money for charity. He then went on to win 2 championships with miami before coming back home to cleveland and delivering on his promise. He is the only man in history to come back from being down 3-1 and win in the NBA finals. He’s the only man in NBA history to go to 6 straight NBA finals. I respect and love this man Lebron because of the way he carries himself. He never seems rattled in any situation. He holds himself accountable and pulls greatness out of everybody who comes in contact with him. Hes definitely a great start to my black history month blogs, my favorite athlete, a true hard worker and talent Lebron James.

Dechaun Watson

Through out the season the talk about who the best player in college football is and a lot of people were quick to say Lamar Jackson. While I have seen Lamar and think he has had one of the better college football seasons in recent history, I still believe Dechaun Watson is the best. Now some might say wow you go to louisville and you’re going to disrespect Lamar like that? *sigh* no, I love Lamar and think he will be a spectacular football player that has plenty of successful years left in him down the road. I just think overall production and making the winning play determines who is the best player. With that being said Dechaun Watson has made winning plays every single game. Clemson would definitely not be anywhere near where they are if it weren’t for Dechaun Watson. One example of that proves Dechaun is not only the best player, but a winner is when he went up against the grueling defense that is Alabama. They were hitting him left and right in the first half and everybody kind of wrote clemson off and proclaimed Bama this year’s national champion. The second half rolled around and it seemed like Dechaun couldn’t be stopped, he made play after play. He put his team in a position to win and they capitilized. He is a winning that you can count on during clutch moments and scenarios. If I could start my team around anybody not named Lamar Jackson it would definitely be Dechaun Watson. He shows poise and he gets the job done.
